about this work
The sculpture is based on the Solmar building in Havana, which built in 1944 to a design by Manuel Copado stands out from its neighbouring structures not only due to its height but also its sinuous balconies. The work is a hybrid between speaker and architectural structure, where speakers replace the apartments bringing the noise of the streets of Havana into the private spaces of people. The speakers also stand for the omnipresence of music in Cuba which is almost an ubiquitous feature of public places in the country.
