Yi-Hsing Tzeng (b.1979, Taiwan)

Born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, Yi-Hsin Tzeng received her BFA from National Taiwan Normal University. In 2007, Tzeng relocated to the United States and attended the Savannah College of Art and Design where she was awarded a full tuition Fellowship in the MFA painting program. She was also the recipient of several artist residencies including Elizabeth Foundation, Vermont Studio Center, and Ox-Bow.

She mainly deconstructs “Beauty” and “Authority” by the approach of appropriating and defacing popular commercial/ political images in order to create another pretty but grotesque paradise. Through the action, she not only proclaims a regained control toward the images but also creates a monster-like image to speak for her contradicted identity in the society.
