Stelios Faitakis (b.1976, Greece)
In 2008 his first solo show, entitled What A Great Day, was held at The Breeder in Athens. His second solo show, in 2009 was also hosted by The Breeder and carried the title "...towards a blessed land of new promise". In 2007 Faitakis participated in the first Athens Biennial, Destroy Athens, curated by Xenia Kalpaktsoglou, Augustine Zenakos and Poka-Yio. At the invitation of Jeffrey Deitch, Faitakis completed a 12-meter long mural in 2009 as part of Wynwood Walls, Goldman Properties’ street art park in Miami. In 2011 Faitakis presented an ambitious large-scale mural at the exhibition Speech Matters at the 54th Venice Biennial as part of the Danish Pavilion, which was curated by Katerina Gregos. That same year he also participated in the Art in the Streets exhibition at MOCA in Los Angeles, curated by Jeffrey Deitch. In 2012 he presented a site specific large scale mural for the 1st Kiev Biennial 'The Best of Times, The Worst of Times. Rebirth and Apocalypse in Contemporary Art', curated by David Elliot, Kiev, Ukraine.
Other group shows include “Newtopia: The State of Human Rights”, curated by Caterina Gregos, Mechelen, Belgium; Nterti Humanism in Faggionato Fine Arts in London, curated by Nadja Argyropoulou (2011); Kunstsalon 2010 in the Haus der Kunst in Munich (2010); The Beautiful Is Just The First Degree of Terrible in the State Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessalonki (2009) curated by Apostolos Kalfopoulos; Anathena at the DESTE Foundation for Contemporary Art in Athens, curated by Marina Fokidi and Marina Gioti (2006) and What Remains is Future in Patra, Greece, curated by Nadja Argyropoulou (2006). Stelios Faitakis’ work was also featured in Palais De Tokyo in Paris, in the exhibition "Hell as Pavillion" (2012) curated by Nadja Argyropoulou as part of the "Garden of Eden" exhibition. Stelios Faitakis is represented by The Breeder, Athens.
